The Actress Expresses Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Nation Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer suitable to comment publicly against the Trump government, fearing it could intensify unhelpful debate and deepen rifts across the nation.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Lawrence

Speaking with media, she commented, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars do not make a difference whatsoever on voter decisions.”

She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the nation apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has admitted freely about backing Republican and Democratic presidential nominees throughout her life. Growing up with conservative Republicans in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and stating she recognized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.

Past Statements

Earlier in her career, she stated that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “as I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard reproductive rights.”

Celebrity Views

Jennifer Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was underscored by his election win.

“This upcoming term appears changed,” commented she regarding his administration. “Since he stated his intentions. We understood his record for his first term. He was transparent. And voters made that decision.”

New Release

Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a young mom who faces challenges with her emotional state in the countryside. Speaking at a media event for the project in the film festival, Lawrence commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s awful.”

Wider Issues

She continued by expressing that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the conversations of American politics currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids right now. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”

The actor sought to redirect frustration about the issue to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she said, which was interpreted as a reference to the recent commitment endorsed by thousands of arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.

Relatable Experiences

The actor, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in the new film. Even though the director has denied the narrative being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, she revealed that she did relate to aspects of her film narrative after the arrival of her new baby, not long after filming concluded.

“There was concern for my son,” she commented, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a drug called that medicine and I used it for a short period and it really helped.”

Professional Experiences

The actor also discussed of the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the movie while she was expecting and limited physically.

“It’s refreshing,” she commented, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
