The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return for the new Hunger Games series film, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Significant Return to Panem
The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their appearance will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, given that the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several prominent actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
Current Projects and Release Timeline
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
- Filming concluded in November of the same year.
